A Favicon is actually short for "Favourite Icon" . It serves as a sort of symbol for the site. You can have a text Favicon or a symbolic favicon which reflects the subject of your site. It also serves to markout your site in your bookmark list. You can also make an animated favicon.
To make a favicon easily you can make a "png" or "Gif" or "ico" image of 16 x16 or 32 x 32 pixels.
Then you can upload the to a free webhost or at GooglePages.
Then -
1. Go to your Template / Theme Editor,
2. Edit html
3. Inside these <head> and < ⁄ head > tag write the line
<link rel="shortcut icon" href="URL OF YOUR ICON AT GOOGLEPAGES" />
Then save template.
